01 — The brief

The problem it solves

Prince Edward County has dozens of tasting rooms, no public transit and very little rideshare, and the distances are deceiving. Most of the bottles never reach a liquor store shelf, so visitors have to plan a day that is realistic — and line up a driver.

The brief: a planner that turns “which wineries should we visit?” into a routed day, then connects the visitor with the tour operators who can drive it.

02 — What we built

Features that do real work.

My Tasting Tour

Filter by area, wine style and type on the map, add stops, and see the day take shape.

Optimize route

Suggests a stop order (nearest-neighbour plus 2-opt) and shows the kilometres it saves, with drive and tasting time estimates.

Plan My Perfect Day

A six-question quiz that produces a routed day.

Which winery for what

Sixteen “championed for” categories and a head-to-head comparison of any two wineries.

A View or an Animal?

A five-round card game that turns your picks into a tour.

Get your tour priced

Sends the visitor's itinerary to the operators they choose — the site's conversion point.

03 — How it's put together

Structure

Pages per place, per tour operator, per event and per guide, plus planning hubs for tours, stays and food. Five County areas organise everything; the events calendar re-sorts itself by today's date.

Under the hood

  • Schema: TouristTrip, LocalBusiness and Offer on operator pages; Article on guides
  • Itineraries save in the browser and print as a clean one-page plan
  • An operator comparison table built around the question visitors actually ask: are tasting fees included?

Details that matter

  • “Nobody is ranked on taste” — the site helps people choose, it doesn't score wineries
  • A draggable bottle-shelf “lineup” and a live “My Tour” counter in the navigation
  • Distance and drive-time maths kept honest and simple, so the plan holds up on the day

The planner is the product and the lead form is the payoff: by the time a visitor asks for a quote, they have already built the day the operator will drive.
